Christ Our Surety

"Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus
from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep,
through the blood of the everlasting covenant . . ."

Hebrews 13:20

A man asked his friend, "How can you be so sure that you're a Christian? You talk like you know that God has forgiven all of your sins. I just don't understand how you can be so sure." He smiled and said, "I'm sure because God has promised, and God never lies." Then, he quoted some verses from the Bible where God promises to forgive the believer's sins. It was that very day, that the man who asked the question, received Christ as his surety of the promises of God. He too became a Christian, and he was sure that all of his sins were forgiven because of the promises of God.

God has made an everlasting covenant with all believers. That covenant is confirmed in Christ through the blood of His cross. The New Testament, known as the everlasting covenant, was confirmed forever.

God's covenant is the promise to every believer of all sins forgiven and everlasting life in Christ. All the covenant promises are confirmed for believers through Jesus Christ. "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us" (2 Corinthians 1:20).

The believer can be sure with God. He can be sure of his salvation. He can be sure of answered prayer. Also, he can be sure of hope in life everlasting. How can we be so sure? For the simple reason that we are standing on the covenant promises of God, through the cross of Jesus, and confirmed in the resurrection of Christ. Believers are made sure in Christ.
