When Someone Hurts You

Who is it that hurt you? Very few of us go through this life without being hurt by someone in word or deed. You may need healing from a hurt in your past. God is still in the business of healing the hurts of our hearts. Jesus was sent by God our Father "to comfort the brokenhearted and to announce that captives will be set free" (Isaiah 61:1, NLT). Don't be a prisoner to the past. Jesus will set you free.

Forgiving those who have hurt you is necessary to receive healing and restoration. Forgiveness is a choice of your will. We are "forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you" (Ephesians 4:32, NLT). The refusal to forgive leads to bitterness, rage, anger, and harsh words. On the contrary, forgiving others opens the door for God to heal you.

When someone hurts us, we become angry. That's a normal response because you have been treated unfairly. However, that anger must be processed and resolved. Otherwise, the anger becomes toxic in your life. "And don't sin by letting anger gain control over you" (Ephesians 4:26, NLT). Process your anger through prayer, and sharing your hurt with a trusted person who can pray with you.

As a believer, Jesus is your Healer. He can heal your broken heart. He loves you sincerely and always. He is for you. Don't give up hope of healing your past. Ask him to heal the memories of your past.
