"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am also known."
1 Corinthians 13:12
Most of us look in the mirror each morning as we begin our day. We see a familiar face that is slowly changing over the years. Has the question ever come to you, "Who am I?" Oh, I'm not talking about your name or your physical appearance. I'm talking about your real identity. The apostle Paul talked about looking into a mirror. In those days, a mirror was simply a piece of polished metal, showing a dim reflection of the face. From his point of you, he could say, "I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am also known."
A woman said to her friend, "So much has happened in my life the last couple of years, that I don't even know who I am anymore." She had been through some crisis experiences in life. Every Christian can look into the mirror and say, "I'm a sinner. I have sinned against God." Paul described himself as the "chief of sinners" (1 Tim. 1:15). But, look into the mirror again and say, "Christ loves me and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). Now, you can take one more look and say, "But by the grace of God, I am what I am" (1 Cor. 15:10). Sure, we have all sinned, but don't ever forget that you are loved and forgiven by the grace of God.
As we look into the mirror over the days, months and years, our appearance continues to change, but our God changes not. That face in the mirror is someone God always loves. It's the face of a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ (John 1:12). The face in the mirror is a person who has been forgiven all sin by the grace of God (Romans 3:24). Know yourself in the mirror of God's Word.
Prayer: Father, as we look into the mirror of the Bible, give us grace to see ourselves as we are, that we may become new people in Christ. Amen.
