"All things were created through Him and for Him."
Colossians 1:16
Years ago, Billy Graham preached a sermon on television that I will never forget. He said, "Man has three important questions that he must answer. Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going?" He gave the answer to each of these basic questions to be found in Jesus Christ. God made all things through Christ (John 1:1-3). We are here to fulfill God's purpose in Christ for our lives (Romans 8:28-30). Through Jesus Christ, we have the hope of everlasting life in heaven (John 3:16; 14:1-6). All three questions are answered in the Bible. All three questions are answered through Jesus Christ our Lord.
A professor said to his class, "I am a higher form of animal life. There is no meaning nor purpose in life. It's absurd to believe in life after death." A student said to him after class, "You know, what you said in class is really depressing. I really do feel sorry for you. I'm sticking with my faith in God." We have a choice. God gave it to us. We may choose to believe God and the promises of the Bible, or we can absolutely refuse any faith in God and His purpose for our lives.
When a believer seeks to know his specific purpose in life, he needs to consider his talents, gifts and opportunities. What talents do you have or spiritual gifts? How are you effective and most content in serving others? What doors of opportunity have been opened to you for service to others? When you answer these questions, you have a sense of direction for God's purpose in your life.
Father, may Your purpose give direction in our lives.
