Jesus said, "I know your deeds, your love and faith,
your service and perseverance . . ."
Revelation 2:19, NIV
The word of Christ to the church of Thyatira is recorded in the second chapter of the book of Revelation. He knew them. He knew all about them, from the inside out. He commends them for their faith, service and love. He was pleased with their perseverance. This word to the believers in that church was a sure word of encouragement. So much of what Christ speaks to us is to encourage us along the way. Although he pointed out some needed corrections for the church, he encouraged them first.
Our Lord wants to encourage every believer. One of the reasons for gathering together at church is to receive encouragement in our faith and walk with the Lord (Hebrews 10:25). Pastors, teachers and Christian friends should be a source of real encouragement, but the greatest encouragement of all is the word of Christ recorded in the Bible. As you read the Bible from day to day, always ask him for a word of encouragement. He is never stingy in giving genuine encouragement. Also, let Christ use you as a minister of encouragement to others.
As we read and hear the word of Christ to us through the Bible, there will be times in which he will need to correct us. That is not to condemn us, but to correct us. As he does this in our lives, his motive is always love. What parent will not correct the children whom he loves? So it is with Christ. He wants the best for us.
Lord, we receive Your encouragement.
