God Heard You

"In my distress I cried to the LORD, and He heard me."

Psalm 120:1

In Bible days, when two people made a covenant, they swore by an oath to help one another. The believer is in a covenant relationship with God. He has given us His word in an oath. There is no way that God will break His oath of promise. When two people were in covenant in those days, to refuse to hear the other one crying for help and do nothing, was to break the covenant of promise. We may break our promises to God, but He is the Promise-Keeper who never fails His word to perform.

A lady said to her friend, "You know, to be honest with you, there are times when I feel like God doesn't hear my prayers." Her friend said, "I suppose we all have those times, but really our prayers are not based on feelings, but God's sure promises." Her friend had it right. No matter how we feel, God has promised. Answered prayer is based on the faithfulness of God to perform His word.

Faith is required to have an effective prayer life. If our faith is controlled by changing feelings, there is no sure foundation for prayer. Feelings are like the wind, constantly changing and moving in different directions. Faith which stands on the solid foundation of God's covenant promises will not waver, nor change like the wind. Let's find the promises of God in the Bible. Believe them and pray them. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). Then, when you cry out to the LORD, you know that He heard you.

God, perform Your word in my life through Jesus Christ.
