Life Out of Control

Life without self-control is a life out of control. That's when fear, doubt, greed, jealousy, addiction, or many other forces may take control of your life. A life out of control is like a moving car without a driver. Bad things are ahead.

Self-control is not selfish. Far from it. God wants you to take control of your life. He made you to have self-control. A life out of control can only find self-control through God's Spirit in Christ.

A life out of control brings uncertainty, fear, and confusion. The sense of direction is lost. The goal of life is missing, leading to boredom, loss of purpose, and misery. It becomes a life of wasted years.

Calling on the Lord is the way to self-control. The fruit of the Spirit of Christ working in your life is self-control. "The fruit of the Spirit is . . . self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23). Your will is freed to do the things that bring joy and peace. Self-control brings self-fulfillment, knowing that your life has meaning and purpose.

Self-control in life comes from discovering who made you and why you were created. God made you, and He made you for a certain purpose. You were made to discover self-control and self-fulfillment in Christ. "All things were created through Him and for Him" (Colossians 1:16).
