A relationship with God is in your heart. That is a metaphor for your inner-man. The heart includes your mind, conscience, will, and emotions. While many people seek outward signs from God, the relationship must begin in your heart.
The king's heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he turns it wherever he pleases (Proverbs 21:1). God led ancient Israel from the king's heart and his covenant word. The LORD anointed the king with the Holy Spirit to direct his people.

Effective prayer is always of the heart. God already knows your heart, but he wants you to share the thoughts and desires of your heart with him in prayer. Ask him to give you understanding about what he has put in your heart. Trust God to give you a heart after his own will.

God directs you when you know it and when you don't. He works in your heart when you understand and when you don't. Pray this way, Here's my heart LORD. Work in it to bring glory to your name. Give me a heart to do your will.
