Our words matter for better or worse. A match can do much good. It can be used to light a furnace that may keep a house warm in the winter. Also, a match could start a wildfire that may destroy a forest of trees. A match is like the words that we speak. Our words may do much good, bringing a blessing to many. However, our words can also be destructive.
Our words can be a blessing to others. We may encourage someone who is depressed. We could build up someone to do good for others. Our words could make a difference. Let your speech always be with grace (Colossians 4:6). Our words should be gracious to others.
Relationships are built upon the words we speak. A marriage begins by exchanging words in vows. Good marriages grow through words of love, affection, and appreciation. The same marriage could be ruined through words of criticism and verbal abuse. Our words may nurture the relationship or destroy it.
Our words can bring glory to God. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Speak words of thanksgiving to God in prayer. Share words of testimony about your faith in God. Share your faith with others through the power of words from the Bible. May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer (Psalm 19:14, NLT). Our words matter.
