Trusting in Wealth

It is true that God may bless a person with wealth. However, the person who trusts God puts Him first in life. He does not allow wealth to become his master. He serves God with his wealth. "And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant" (Deuteronomy 8:18).

There is a warning in the Bible, however, to all who trust in wealth. "He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like foliage" (Proverbs 11:28). The fall is sure for those who trust in wealth instead of God. Contrast that to the righteous who flourish, trusting God.

The righteous are not the self-righteous. Rather, these are those who receive the gift of righteousness by trusting God. "And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness" (Genesis 15:6). Believing God is trusting Him for righteousness. That is something that wealth cannot buy.

Someone may ask, "Can you trust God and wealth?" Jesus answered that question, when He said, "You cannot serve God and mammon" (Luke 16:13). Mammon was known as the god of wealth. Jesus also said, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). God rightfully commands first place in our lives.
