"But you shall be called Hephzibah,
and your land Beulah, for the LORD delights in you,
and your land shall be married."
Isaiah 62:4
As her husband got home from work, he always hugged his wife and kissed her. One day after the embrace and kiss, she said, "I hope you will always love me. I'm getting older, and sometime I wonder if you will always love me like you do now." He smiled and said, "Darling, you are my delight, and you always will be." Then, he hugged her and kissed her again. That was the answer she needed to hear, but she had been reluctant to share her concern. His reassurance meant so much to her. The LORD delights in us as His covenant people.
The word Hephzibah means my delight is in her. The word Beulah means married. God has entered into a covenant relationship with all who trust Him. It is like the covenant of marriage. The LORD has given us His promised word with an oath, vows that He has sworn to keep. He wants us to have assurance in our relationship with Him. LORD, with all capitals, is His covenant name. We are to trust His name and obey His word. His covenant word is His guarantee for our faith.
What do you believe God thinks about you? Do you believe His word and trust in His name? This is what the Bible says about those who do. "For the LORD delights in you." Someone would ask, "How could God delight in me? I have failed him so many times." The LORD says, "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool" (Isaiah 1:18). Because of the mercy and grace of God, "the LORD delights in you."
Prayer: LORD, we trust in Your name and believe Your word. We receive Your mercy and grace through Jesus Christ. Amen.
