Receive God's Blessings

"Blessed is the man whose strength is in You."

Psalm 84:5

A twelve year old boy asked his dad, "When they pray at church about God blessing people, what does that mean?" His dad replied, "Son, when anyone prays for God to bless others, they are asking our heavenly Father to show His goodness to them. I like to do good things for you, because you are my son and I love you. God is our Father and He wants to do good things in our lives."  The boy's dad had it right. God is a loving, heavenly Father. He is good to all. He desires to bless all who will receive His blessings. The psalmist saw those who were blessed as seeing their strength in the LORD. Without strength, we can do nothing.

The words blessed and cursed are covenant terms. Those who are in a covenant relationship with God are blessed. Those who are not in such a relationship are cut off from God's blessings. Thus the word cursed means to be cut off from God's blessings. The curse of the law comes because of sin. The blessing of God comes through obedience. Christ obeyed the law of God in all things. He was without sin. By faith we receive all the blessings of God in Christ. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ" (Ephesians 1:3).

We are taught to pray in the name and authority of Jesus. All the blessings of God are for us through the obedience of Christ. He secures every heavenly blessing, that is all the blessings of God through His authority. All the blessings come by grace alone in Christ alone. The believer has a covenant right in Christ to receive all the blessings of God as promised in the Bible. Only believe! God wants to bless you, and He proved it through sending His Son Jesus Christ. Believe and receive.

Prayer: Father, we receive all that you have for us through our Lord Jesus Christ. We receive Your blessings according to Your promises, by faith alone in Christ alone. Amen.
