Is God Working in You?

"Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God,
that you believe in Him whom He sent."

John 6:29

A young man said to his pastor, "I joined the church and was baptized as a child, but sometime I wonder if God is working in my life. Then, I may hear other's testify of how God did unusual things in their lives, it really makes me wonder. How can I know?" His pastor said, "God does work in our lives in different ways at different times, but we know when He has worked faith in our lives to believe in Christ, and He has done that for you." The pastor went on to explain to the young man how God works in us to enable us to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "This is the work of God."

The Holy Spirit convicts us of the sin of unbelief, not believing in the Lord Jesus Christ (John 16:7-11). Then, the Spirit enables us to believe in Christ. Saving faith is an abiding gift of God's Spirit. As we yield to God's Spirit, we believe in the one whom God sent to die for our sins. The same one who is risen from the dead. "This is the work of God." Our security is that God will continue to work in our hearts. "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6).

Do you truly believe the good news of Jesus Christ? Do you believe that He died for your sins? Do you believe that He is risen from the grave? If your answer is yes, be assured that God is working in your life. Even more so, you may rest assured that God will continue to work in you. Remember, salvation is not our works for God (Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation is God's work in us. "This is the work of God."  A man said to his pastor, "I hope that I've done enough for God to go to heaven." The pastor assured him, "It's not what we've done for God. It's what He has done for us, and that's called grace. That's God working in us."

Prayer: God our Father, work in us that which is pleasing in Your sight, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
