"Instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills,
we shall live and do this or that."
James 4:15
Most of us have already made plans for the new year. That's good. There's nothing wrong with that, but remember, God's calendar may have other plans for us. So our plans and expectations must include "if the Lord wills." That's not a negative statement. It's a confession of faith. God has plans for all of His children (Ephesians 2:10). His will is "good, acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2). So, let us enter 2013 with faith in God for all that He wants to do in our lives.
The calendar is divided into months and days. Life is meant to be lived one day at a time. Jesus warned us not to worry about tomorrow, in His Sermon on the Mount. Let us determine to thank God for each day He chooses to give us, and live to the fullest everyone of our days. Worrying about tomorrow will rob us of the joy intended for today.
Should God choose to interrupt any of your plans for 2013, take it not unkindly. Ignore frustration and forget disappointment. He's got a better idea. His interruptions in life are divine appointments. Even if they seem inconvenient or disappointing, He is working in our lives toward good. What is seen as bad one day will turn to something good another day. He has the sovereign ability to work all things together for good in the lives of His children, according to His purpose. God is with us in 2013 and always.
Prayer: Father, may Your good, acceptable and perfect will be done in our lives in 2013, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
