The Joy of Life

"Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me."

Psalm 51:12

A woman noticed that her husband no longer had the joy that he once had. She asked him, "Are you alright?" He said, "No, I'm not and I know why. I have ignored my relationship with God for some time now." He went on to explain that he had slowly drifted away from fellowship with God. They prayed together. He asked God to restore his joy and forgive him for not putting the Lord first in his life. His joy was restored.

It's God's will that His children know the joy of life. That joy comes in relationship with God. It is a fruit of the Spirit of God working in us (Galatians 5:22). When we lose our joy, it is often an indication that something has happened in our relationship with God. The psalmist David lost the joy of life. His sin robbed him of that joy. Psalm 51 is his penitential prayer of confessing his sin to God, asking that the joy be restored.

Do you have joy in your life? Believe that it's God's will to fill you with joy. Ask God to search your heart, showing you the reason for losing your joy in life. He will. If sin needs to be confessed, God will certainly forgive you. His mercy provides forgiveness for all of our sins. Ask God to restore your joy. God wants you to have the joy of life.

Prayer: Father, forgive our sins. Create within us a clean heart. Restore the joy of our salvation through the Holy Spirit, in Jesus name. Amen.
