"And my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:19
The man's income was not enough to pay all the family bills. They had cut back in every way possible, but the funds were still short. He was worried and embarrassed that he couldn't provide for his family. He didn't want to talk to his wife about it. His answer was always, "We'll just do the best that we can." His wife continued to pray about the situation. Unexpectedly, she received an offer for a part-time job. It was an answered prayer. It would be enough to pay their bills. To her surprise the husband was not happy about her job offer. He said, "It makes me feel bad that I can't provide for you." She said, "You're sweet. I love you for wanting to take care of me, and you're doing your best. Both of us need to trust God to provide."
The apostle Paul knew that God would provide for our need through His riches in glory. God had used the church at Philippi to help provide for his needs in prison. Philippians was his thank you letter to the church. God does work through people to help us in time of need. He also wants to use us to help others in their need. That doesn't mean that He gives us everything we want. However, He is glorified to provide our needs. One of the Old Testament covenant names for God is Jehovah-jireh, which means the Lord provides.
What real need do you have in your life that only God can provide? Trust Him to be your Jehovah-jireh. Believe on the name of the Lord. The Lord will provide. Pray Philippians 4:19. Don't try to figure out all the details. "Faith it out" to God. Trust Him to work in His time and His way. What do you need?
Prayer: Father, You care about our every need. Give us this day our daily bread. Use us to provide the needs of others, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
