God Revealed to Us

"The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the firmament shows His handiwork."

Psalm 19:1

The girl had been to Sunday School. She was rather quiet. Her mother questioned her on being so quiet. She wanted to know if something was wrong. The girl said, "Oh, I was just thinking about our Sunday School lesson. I wish everyone could know about God." Her mother said, "Well, not everybody goes to Sunday School like you do, but everyone can know about God. All they have to do is look at the sky and the beautiful world where we live. Only God could make such a great big wonderful place." That's exactly what the psalmist was saying. He went on to write, "There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard" (Psalm 19:3). God's witness to all is in creation.

In the New Testament, the apostle Paul continues the theme of the glory of God in the creation of the world. He taught that creation witnesses to the invisible God. "His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things which are made" (Romans 1:20). God gives all mankind the witness of His glory in creation, but man refuses to give God glory because of sin. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

Only the Spirit of God can open the eyes of understanding in man to see the glory of God. The same Spirit who created all things is the same Spirit who witnesses to our hearts of the glory of God. God draws people to Himself through the work of the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit is working in our hearts, He reveals the glory of God through the Word. "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory" (John 1:14). The Word of God is the Son of God (John 1:1-3). He has revealed to us  God's glory, love and grace.
Father, we see Your glory in all of creation. We receive the fullness of Your glory through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
