". . . the love of God has been poured out in our hearts
by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."
Romans 5:5
A man told me about a church in a distant place where unusual things were happening. Then, he asked me, "Do you think God is in that?" I said to him, "I don't know, but I know when God is in it, love is there." The best assurance that God is at work in our hearts and in our churches is love, because "God is love" (1 John 4:8).
Jesus brought a sharp indictment against some very religious people called the Pharisees. He said, "You have not the love of God in you." The Pharisees were self-righteous, legalistic in living, and were thought to be among the best people of their time, yet it was all in vain because the love of God was not in them.
One of the greatest chapters in the Bible is called the love chapter, First Corinthians 13. More than a century ago, Henry Drummond wrote a book entitled, The Greatest Thing in the World. It was about love, and it was based on First Corinthians 13. Love is the greatest gift of God to man for one profound reason - God is love. Yes, Henry Drummond was right. Love is the greatest thing in the world. No other gift can compare to the wonder of God's love.
When God's love fills our hearts, our lives are changed. We understand who God is. We relate to others with the heart of God. The good news is that all can experience God's love through Jesus Christ. His love for us is seen at the cross of Christ (Romans 5:8). His love is experienced in our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Ask God to fill you with His great love today. By faith in Christ we receive His love. Through the prayer of faith, we appropriate His love. "Know the love of Christ, which passes all knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:19). Be filled with God's love.
Father, fill us today with Your wonderful love in Jesus name.
