How to Serve God

"If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor."

John 12:26

You may have seen the Academy Awards on television. People who have excelled in acting, receive these distinguished awards for their performance. It's quite an event. Those who have thought themselves overlooked for the honor can become very offended and bitter.

God desires to honor His children for service. His honor does not come through awards seen by others in this life. His honor includes the fulfilling joy, contentment and satisfying purpose of meaning in life. After all, many lives are wasted in frustration, meaninglessness and the absence of love and joy. God our Father delights in honoring His children who serve Him by serving others.

Unfortunately, it may take a personal crisis for us to discover our purpose in life. One of the happiest guys I ever knew was a recovering alcoholic. He enjoyed serving others who had the same problem. He loved them, helped them, formed support groups, and always shared the love of God with them. He knew the joy of helping others. His life took on new meaning and purpose. Only God knows how many people that he has helped. He served God by serving others.

Have you found your purpose of service in life? God has His way of putting it into our hearts. Consider your own disappointments and hurts. Look at your own failures and recovery. Don't waste your hurts in life. Use them to help and serve others. You too will be honored with purpose, love and joy in life. Discover the joy of serving God through serving others.

Father, we commit our lives to serve others though Christ Jesus.
