Understand God's Purpose

"By faith we understand . . ."

Hebrews 11:3

An airplane pilot cannot always fly by what he sees through the window. He has an instrument panel to guide him. When he is ready to land the plane, he needs permission from the air traffic control tower. There is a voice which gives him guidance on landing the aircraft. So it is in our lives as believers. We cannot always understand our circumstances by what we see. We understand by faith. Our circumstances may change quickly and often, but our God changes not. His attributes are forever the same. Our faith is not in temporal things that the eye may see. Our faith is in the everlasting God.

God works all things according to His eternal plan and purpose. God's purpose is described in the Bible. His word to us changes not. He has bound Himself to us as believers through the everlasting covenant (Hebrews 13:20-21). We may stand secure with a confident faith, based upon His covenant word. We simply do not understand all of our circumstances through sight and reason. Our reason is limited. We may see a few pieces to the puzzle of our life, but God sees all the pieces fitting together and complete. By faith we understand that God is working through all circumstances to bring good in the lives of all who love Him (Romans 8:28).

Do you have a circumstance in your life that is perplexing and confusing? Human understanding can just take you so far. Faith can take you to the place of confidence and trust in God, regardless of circumstances. Unbelief says, "Life doesn't make any sense. It has no purpose." Faith says, "I understand that God is at work in every circumstance of my life. He is working for my good, according to His purpose." By faith we understand.

Father, give us faith to understand Your purpose.
