Pray with Power

"Remember, I pray the word that you commanded
your servant Moses . . ."

Nehemiah 1:8-9

The young man was reading his grandmother's Bible. As he continued to read, he noticed in the margin of so many pages the letter T and the letter P. He asked his grandmother what that meant. She said, "Sonny, when I find a promise of God in the Bible, I pray it back to Him. Then, I write a T by the promise. That stands for tried. When God answers the prayer, I write a P next to it. That stands for proven. Grandmother had a lot of TP's in her Bible. How many do you have in yours?

Nehemiah understood the advantage of praying the promises of God. He simply called upon God to remember His word. That is powerful prayer. God answered Nehemiah. After the Babylonian army destroyed the walls surrounding the city of Jerusalem, Nehemiah led the effort to rebuild the walls and secure the city. The difficult task was accomplished because God answered prayer. Nehemiah understood that God would never break His word, therefore he found the key to effective prayer.

You too can pray with power when you stand by faith upon the promises of God. Our faith may waver. Doubts may attack us. Yet, the person who dares to believe the covenant promises of God sees the LORD answer prayer, because God will never fail to keep His word. Answered prayer is not about how strong we are, rather, it's about how faithful God is. Because He is always faithful to His word to perform it, we can pray with power.

LORD, we base our prayers on Your word of promise.
