"Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."
John 1:29
A pastor was sharing his faith with a man who was not a Christian. The pastor asked the man if he believed that Christ died for his sins. The man said, "How could Christ die for my sins? When he died, I wasn't born. I had not committed any sins." The pastor explained that Christ died for the sin of the world. Then, the man said, "I just don't understand how he could do that. How could one man die for so many?"
That's exactly what happened at the cross. Jesus died for so many, even the sin of the whole world. God the Father accepted His sacrifice on the cross by raising Jesus from the dead. His resurrection is evidence that the Father received His Son's death for the sin of the world.
Our sin is taken away personally, as we receive the sacrifice of Christ on our behalf. Through repentance and faith in Christ, all of our sin is taken away. Repentance is godly sorrow for our sin. Faith is trusting the death of Christ for the sacrifice of sin on our behalf. The cross of Jesus becomes dear to our hearts, for it was there God dealt with all of our sin.
Make a confession of your faith today by saying, "My sin was taken away at the cross of Jesus." Faith receives the perfect sacrifice for our sin, offered to God the Father once for all on behalf of the world. Forgiveness is yours today. Believe and receive. Thereafter, when we sin as Christians, we confess our sins to receive fresh cleansing, according to the wonderful promise in 1 John 1:9. Through Jesus Christ, your sins are taken away.
Lord Jesus, we thank You for taking away our sins.
