"The name of the LORD is a strong tower.
The righteous run into it and are safe."
Proverbs 18:10
From time to time, the little boy got into trouble with his older brother. He would run from him and hide behind his dad's recliner in the living room. "Dad, don't let him get me," he pleaded. He felt safe behind his dad's chair. His brother couldn't get to him without talking to his dad. Behind that chair was his safe place. The believer has a safe place in the name of the LORD. He is our strong tower. A tower was a place of safety from wild animals or approaching enemies.
The name of the LORD is His covenant name. The covenant is God's written word to His people. God states His promises in the covenant. The promises are written throughout the Bible. Sins forgiven is based on God's promise. Eternal life is the promised gift of God for all who believe. The presence of God in our lives through the Holy Spirit is a promise received. All that we have from God, or hope for in the future, is based on the trustworthy covenant promises of the living God.
The name of the LORD which provides the strong tower is God's covenant promise to be there for every believer. He is the God who is with us here, now and always. He promises, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." The promise is found in the Old Covenant (Deuteronomy 31:6), as well as the New Covenant (Hebrews 13:5). Doubt begs God, "O LORD, please be with me." Faith prays, "LORD, thank You that You are with me always."
LORD, we trust You as our safe place.
