How Should We Pray?

How should we pray? You may say, "I don't know how to pray." Well, you're not by yourself. All believers come to that place. You need to pray; you want to pray; but, you don't know how. "For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray" (Romans 8:26 a, NLT).

When you don't know how to pray, there's good news for every believer. The Holy Spirit within you is praying, and He knows just how to pray, according to God's will. "The Holy Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will" (Romans 8:27, NLT).

When you reach that place where you really don't know how to pray, depend upon the Holy Spirit to pray within you. "But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words" (Romans 8:26 b, NLT).

God knows your limitations. He knows, when you don't know how to pray. He doesn't expect you to do what you cannot. Therefore, He becomes your Helper in prayer through the Holy Spirit. Perhaps, all you can do is groan, yet you know there is another one praying within you.

So, admit it. You don't know how to pray as you should. Don't feel guilty about it. Thank God for the Helper. He lives in every person who is trusting Jesus Christ as Lord, "having believed you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise" (Ephesians 1:13). Thank God for your Helper. He is your Helper in prayer.
