The Day Death Died

Death has had power over the children of man since our first father chose to disobey God's command. Death came as God had warned, and since that time death has reigned over all men everywhere in every age. Death will not be denied. He has had his way with all mankind. Death has reigned supreme with the rich and poor, wise and foolish, without exception. "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).

The fear of death is a cruel taskmaster. The tormenting fear of death holds the multitudes in bondage. The rational man says, "Let us eat, drink, and be merry, until we die." He confesses that death is coming to all, so get what you can out of life until that day comes. Death simply will not be denied. The fear of death seeks to enslave the minds of men.

Death reigned, that is until one Sunday morning. The earth quaked rolling a stone away from the door of a tomb. Death was robbed by divine power. The tomb was empty. The tomb was robbed not by man, but by the same Creator who made man in the beginning. Omnipotence could not be denied. He lives! Christ the Lord is risen today!

Some believe the resurrection of Christ is mythology. Others are convinced it's only wishful thinking. However, for those whose hearts have been changed by the same power that robbed death of victory, they are sure Jesus Christ is risen indeed. Death is robbed of its power, because God's power is greater. "How we thank God, who gives us the victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ our Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:57, NLT).
