Assurance of faith is found on the proper foundation. Some people seek assurance of their faith on feelings. They are soon disappointed, because feelings change fast. Others seek assurance of their faith on unusual personal experiences. However, those experiences are rare and soon become only a memory.
Assurance of faith must be on the sure foundation of our Lord Jesus Christ. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish (Hebrews 12:2, NLT). The Holy Spirit makes Christ real in the hearts of people by faith. Faith is a personal relationship with Christ, enabled by God's Spirit, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance (1 Thessalonians 1:5, NLT).
Assurance of faith must be focused upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe him. Trust him. Rely upon him. Recognize that your faith depends upon Christ from start to finish. Without him you can do nothing. Strengthen your faith, as you keep your focus upon Jesus.
Assurance of faith must stand upon the promises of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. The assurance of your faith is upon the faithfulness of God to fulfill his promises to you through Christ. God, who cannot lie, promised before time began (Titus 1:2). The promises of God are eternal. So, your faith must stand upon the foundation of God's promises that cannot fail.
