When Christians Speak

Someone has said, "Talk is cheap." That's certainly not true in the Christian life. Believers speak to God in prayer. God hears and responds to our prayers. Christians speak to others about Christ. We share the gospel of Christ with those who are not saved. When we speak to anyone, it should be for their good and God's glory (Colossians 4:2-6).

We speak to God in prayer with thanksgiving and personal requests. Every prayer should include sincere thanksgiving to God for his goodness and blessing in our lives. God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ our Lord (Ephesians 1:3).

We pray for those who don't know Christ as their Lord and Savior. We pray for open doors to share the gospel of Christ. The apostle Paul requested prayer for opportunities to speak to others about Christ. His request was "praying for us that God would open a door for the word to speak the mystery of Christ" (Colossians 4:3).

We pray for wisdom about situations in our lives. If we ask God for wisdom, he is pleased to give the wisdom we need (James 1:5). The apostle Paul said, "Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside" (Colossians 4:5). He went on to say, "Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one" (Colossians 4:6).
