"O God, when You went out before Your people,
when You marched through the wilderness . . ."
Psalm 68:7
A college student said to his dad, "I really need for God to lead me at this time in my life. I'm not sure about my major at school nor my vocation in the future. I certainly need Him to lead me to the one who will become my wife. In church we often talk about God leading us, but I need to know how He does that." His father said, "Son, I'm so glad that you want God to lead you in the important decisions that you will be making. Willing to follow Him is more important than trying to understand all His ways."
God led His people out of Egypt into the wilderness. He raised up a man by the name of Moses to lead them in the right way. They were not always willing to follow. He had a promised land for them, but they rebelled against God's leadership through Moses. The next generation followed their leader Joshua into God's promised land. God was always willing to lead them, but they were not always willing to follow. Willing to follow God is always more important than trying to understand all His ways.
Are you willing for God to lead you through life? He offers us many promised blessings. He knows the right way for each of us. He seeks to lead us as a shepherd leads his sheep. We understand that sheep have no real good sense of direction. They lose their way easily. So do we in the wilderness of this world. He has a destiny for us, but we must follow. He brings people into our lives who help us along the way. He wants us to be a part of His people who travel together. He has our route planned ahead. All He is asking us to do is follow. Enjoy the trip we call life, knowing that God leads us.
Prayer: Gentle Shepherd, lead us in the right path, in Jesus name.
