The Renewed Mind

"Be renewed in the spirit of your mind."

Ephesians 4:23

A man said to a Christian, "I just don't understand how you Christians think. It really doesn't make sense to me. I respect you, but I just don't get it." The Christian kindly answered, "I know you respect me and I respect you. Also, I know why you don't understand the Christian mindset. I haven't been a Christian too many years, and I didn't get it either until my conversion. Repentance means that I had a change of mind."

Conversion to Jesus Christ is a transformation of the mind. It begins with repentance. That word comes from two Greek words, meta meaning change and nous meaning mind. God grants repentance in Christ  renewing our minds. "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove that good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (Romans 12:2). Christ changes our lives, and that includes our minds.

The renewed mind understands the will of God as written in the Bible. It understands what before it simply could not understand. The things of God are considered foolishness to the person whose mind has not been renewed. "The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, nor can he know them" (1 Corinthians 2:14). The renewed mind understands.

Prayer: Father, we give thanks for renewing our minds in Christ.
