God Works in Us

"He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."

Psalm 1:3

The psalmist uses a simile to describe the life of a believer. He is like a tree planted by the river. God has a plan for each one of us. He plants us where he wants us to be. We often may wish that we were somewhere else. We may think, if I was somewhere else I would be happy. God could use me in a greater way. Such thinking fails to remember that God plants our lives in his place for us. Sure we have choices. No one should deny that, but God even works through our choices (Philippians 2:13).

God is the unseen source of blessings in our lives. He is like the river, providing life for our roots. Believers are like a tree planted by the rivers of water. God is our source for all things in life. He is our inner source of life and strength. He desires to bear fruit through us (Galatians 5:22-23). The tree does not strain nor struggle. It simply receives quietly and constantly strength from the river. God is there for you. Don't worry nor fret. Rest in him. Trust in him. He who is your source of life and strength shall not fail you.

God is working in us to prosper us. Attention please: I must define the word prosper. We are not talking about financial worth. Prosperity in Bible terms is receiving all we need from the source of God's blessing. He is our sufficiency. He is working in us constantly (1 Corinthians 12:6). He works in us when we understand and when we don't. He will bring forth fruit in your life in due season. Simply trust him where God plants you.

Prayer: Father, you are our all-sufficient source. We trust in you to work through us where you have planted our lives, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
