"They all shall know Me, from the least of them
to the greatest of them,' says the LORD."
to the greatest of them,' says the LORD."
Jeremiah 31:34
A woman was trying to share her faith with a friend. She asked her, "Do you know the LORD?" Her friend pondered the question for a moment and then she said, "I've known about God all my life." The woman responded, "I was not asking if you know about God. I was asking if you know Him in a personal way." She explained the difference. Not on that day, but later, her friend came to know God in a personal relationship.
What does it mean to know God in a personal relationship? It means that we enter into a faith relationship with Him, based upon His covenant promises. Those promises are clearly stated in Jeremiah 31:31-34. They are repeated in the New Testament (Hebrews 10:16-17). Marriage is intended to be a covenant relationship. It's based upon vows, promises, commitment and trust. So it is in our relationship with God. One of those promises is that all of us may know God in a personal relationship.
In the Old Testament, covenants were sealed through the blood of a sacrificial animal, pointing to Christ, who would offer the perfect sacrifice to confirm God's everlasting covenant with every believer. When the believer takes the Lord's Supper, known by many as communion, it testifies to the everlasting covenant of God with us through the sacrifice of Christ. It is God's assurance to every believer, that He is working in us to do that which is pleasing unto Him (Hebrews 13:20-21). All are invited to know God in a covenant relationship, through faith in Jesus Christ. Do you know God?
Prayer: Father, we receive all of Your covenant promises through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
