Find Hope Today

"You are my hope, O LORD God."

Psalm 71:5

Ancient philosophers like Plato and Aristotle grappled with the basic questions of life. There are three basic questions that most people ask at one time or another. Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? A more recent philosopher, Jean Paul Sartre wrote the book No Exit. He concluded that all of life is meaningless. This may be a conclusion for those who don't know God. For the believer, God is the answer to the three basic questions. We came from God. We live to bring glory to God. We are going to give account to God.

How can we be sure that God is the answer to the basic questions of our lives? The psalmist found the answer in hope, a hope that was focused on the LORD God. The word LORD is God's covenant name in the Bible. God has entered into a covenant relationship with everyone who trusts in Him. Our hope in God is based upon His covenant promises.

The Bible is filled with covenant promises for those who hope in God. A covenant promise is a guarantee. When we buy a car or an appliance, we often receive a printed warranty, which is our guarantee of the product's performance. God's Word, the Bible, declares God's covenant promises for every believer. Our hope is in the trustworthiness of our LORD.

A skeptic asked a Christian, "So, what if the Bible is not true? What if your faith is based on worthless promises?" The believer quickly responded, "I wouldn't think of calling God a liar. He has promised, and He cannot lie." That's what the Bible teaches in Titus 1:2. "God, who cannot lie, promised before time began." The covenant promises of the LORD are based upon God's everlasting truth. Hope in the LORD. You will never be disappointed. Find hope today.

Prayer: LORD God, You are our hope. Your promises are forever true. We receive hope today through the name of Jesus. Amen.
