". . . for he who comes to God must believe that He is . . ."
Hebrews 11:6
People who have religion may try their best to please God, but without faith it is impossible to please Him. They talk about living better and trying harder. They may even talk about praying harder. Yet, all of these things will get us nowhere. Walking on a treadmill will give you something to do, but it will get you nowhere. Without faith, we can never get to God. The only way that anyone can come to God is by faith. The eleventh chapter of Hebrews makes it clear that all must come to God by faith.
Since faith is the only way to God, we must understand the nature of faith. The Bible teaches that faith is a gift of the Spirit of God that comes through the word of God (Romans 10:17; 1 Cor. 13:13). Faith is trust, confidence and reliance upon God. The same God who requires us to come to Him by faith is the same God who provides our faith. The Bible says, "He who comes to God must believe that He is." God enables us to come to Him through the Holy Spirit. When we yield to the drawing of the Spirit of God, our hearts are changed. The evidence is faith (1 John 5:1).
Many people don't think about coming to God because they feel unworthy. The truth of the matter is that we are all unworthy (Romans 3:23). But the good news is that God has provided a way to forgive our sins through Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me" (John 14:6). That is intended to exclude none, but to include all who will come through faith in God's Son. He gives us His perfect righteousness by faith (2 Cor. 5:21). God has made a way for all to come to Him. The only hindrance is unbelief. Come to God now by faith.
Prayer: We come to You, O God, by faith through Christ our Lord. Amen.
