"If a man dies, shall he live again?"
Job 14:14
Four hundred years before Christ was born, Socrates was considered the wisest man in the world by many. Someone asked him, "Shall we live again?" His answer was, "I hope so, but no man can know." Job had the same question in his sickness, thinking about his own death. Most people are too busy to consider the question until a loved one dies or they face a terminal illness. Sooner or later, it's a question that most people consider.
Will we live again? A man wiser than Socrates, even our Lord Jesus Christ, answered the question with authority and proved it in his resurrection. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, yet shall he live" (John 11:25). No man ever spoke like this. Josh McDowell wrote, "He is Lord, lunatic or liar." A man who is a lunatic could say, "I am the resurrection and the life." Or, a man who is lying could make such a claim. Jesus Christ is neither. He is Lord! He is risen from the dead and He is Lord! His empty grave proves it. His appearance to the disciples, after the resurrection, proves it. His power to change lives today proves it.
Do you believe Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life? Unbelief says, "It's scientifically impossible. Only a foolish person would believe such a claim." Doubt says, "I would like to believe it, but we can't be absolutely sure." Faith says, "He lives! I know he lives. He lives within my heart." Christ lives in our hearts by faith through the operative work of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 13:13). This sure faith is born of the Spirit of God, giving certain witness to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
God, we believe that Jesus is risen from the dead, and we confess that Jesus is Lord.
