"And my people shall be satisfied
with My goodness, says the LORD."
with My goodness, says the LORD."
Jeremiah 31:14
Years ago, there was a popular song entitled, "I Can't Get No Satisfaction." Maybe it was popular because so many have that experience. It could be that we look for satisfaction in all the wrong places. God made a promise to His people. They shall be satisfied with His goodness.
To know God in a personal relationship is to know Him in covenant. A covenant includes vows and oaths. It's like a marriage relationship, when the bride and groom say their vows with God as the witness. God makes binding promises to His people, and one of them is that they will be satisfied with His goodness. God's covenant name is LORD, with all capital letters. In His name, we receive all of His covenant promises. The Son of God was given the name JESUS, which means the LORD saves. The good news is that all the covenant promises are ours in the name of JESUS. "For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God" (2 Corinthians 1:20).
The specific promise of God's goodness for His people is included in Jeremiah 32:40. "And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good . . ." The apostle Paul understood this covenant promise when he wrote, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
LORD, You have satisfied us in Your goodness.
