Every Knee Shall Bow

"As I live says the LORD, every knee shall bow to Me,
and every tongue shall confess to God."

Isaiah 45:23

As the minister spoke from the pulpit to his congregation, he said, "Everyone of us shall bow the knee to God. The question is when? We can bow the knee to God in life and receive mercy and blessing, or we shall bow the knee to God in judgment. The choice is ours." A man came forward at the end of the service and said, "Preacher, you put it straight to me today. I'm ready to bow the knee today."

To bow the knee to a king in Bible days was the body language of submitting to his authority and kingdom. That mental image describes the act of submitting to God. It is not surrender to a ruthless monarch. It is surrender to grace and mercy, forgiveness and blessing. We have the choice now. In the day of judgment, all shall bow the knee to the sovereign LORD of the universe. In that day, everyone shall see that His kingdom rules over all.

Bowing the knee is sometime the body language of prayer. It is our way of saying, "LORD, I submit my life to You." It is an outward expression of our heart's desire. With the knee bowed to the King of Glory, we recognize that He is indeed LORD over our lives. We receive His mercy. His blessings come to us through submission. Arrogant pride says, "I'm the master of my fate. I submit to no one." Humility says, "I submit my life to the LORD. He is LORD over all." Humility bows today. Pride shall bow in the day of judgment.

LORD JESUS, we bow the knee to You.
