How to Grow in Faith

"Desire the sincere milk of the word,
that you may grow thereby."

1 Peter 2:2

His grandson was almost grown. He was a senior in high school. He said to him, "You look like a man. You've grown to be a handsome man. Have you grown in your faith?" The grandson said, "I'm glad that you asked that question. I really do want to grow in my faith, but I'm not sure that I know how." Granddad responded, "Son, we've got to feed on the Word of God, if we want to grow in our faith. I'm going to buy you a Study Bible. As you read it and understand it, your faith will grow." Granddad spoke the truth. As believers, we grow in our faith as we feed on the milk and meat of God's Word, the Bible.

There is a correlation between feeding on the Word of God and growing in our faith. "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). For a young man to grow to be healthy and strong, he must feed on a good diet. The diet for our faith is God's Word. Without feeding on the truth of Scripture, we become weak and anemic in our faith.

The very desire to hear, read and understand the Word of God is a good sign that you have been born again. We become babes in Christ through conversion. Babes need to be fed milk. Feeding on the milk of the Word helps us to grow to receive the meat of God's Word. Our faith develops, and becomes stronger day by day. A strong faith ensures understanding in God's purpose for our lives, an effective prayer life, and the assurance of our salvation. You are growing in your faith.

Father, we want to grow in our faith through Christ.
