"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and comes down from the Father of lights."
James 1:17
He had life-threatening surgery. Everything went well. He was recovering exceptionally well. Their prayers had been answered. He said to his wife, "This surgery has changed my perspective on life. I now see that every day of life is a good gift from God." His wife said, "I agree. It always has been, but your surgery made us so aware of it. God is good."
It is so easy to take life for granted. Suddenly, a life-threatening situation can awaken us to the good gift of life. All that we have or hope for in life is made possible from above, through the Father of lights.
A man was teaching a Bible study. He was talking about God's goodness seen in everyday life. Surprisingly, he said, "This morning I was brushing my teeth. I realized that I had never thanked God for my teeth." Everyone laughed. He said, "Thank God for your teeth while you still have them." That brought another laugh from everyone. He made his point well. Everything we have is a gift from God. It's so easy to take God's good gifts for granted.
Can you think of some gifts in your life for which you have never thought to thank God? Surely, everyone could think of many things. Most of all, let us thank God for His great love for us through Jesus Christ. God's loving goodness is the motive behind all the gifts of life. Life is good, because God is good.
Father, we thank You for all the good gifts in life, most of all for Jesus.
