Don't Blame God

"Because the creation itself also will be delivered
from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty
of the children of God."

Romans 8:21

If a natural disaster takes place, the insurance policies usually refer to it as an "act of God." Man, therefore, is not considered responsible, and God gets the blame. That may be a good term for insurance agents, used in the courtrooms of the land, but God is not to be blamed for the corruption of man's sin affecting the natural world.

The Bible teaches that man's sin, not God, has brought natural disasters in the earth. After the first couple sinned against God, the Lord pronounced judgment, saying, "Cursed is the ground for your sake ... both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you" (Genesis 3:17-18). The apostle Paul referred to the earth being delivered from the bondage of corruption.

We sin against God, when we blame Him for the results of our sin. When God created the heavens and the earth, as well as all things, the Bible says, "And God saw that it was good" (Genesis 1:25). The goodness of God is witnessed throughout the Bible. The bad choices of mankind have brought real consequences to this island earth, and all the created order. Our hope for the future is based on the unquestioned goodness of God. The author of the book of Revelation envisions the image of "a new heaven and a new earth."

Think today of the good things that God has done in your own life. How many good things could you name? Let hope rise in your heart, as you consider that God will bring good out of all the circumstances of your life. He is the God of liberty to set us free from the curse of sin, and the consequences of our own bad choices. As we look at all the evil in our world today, let us pray to the Father, "Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Don't blame God. Praise God that His good kingdom is coming.

Father, may Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth.
