"To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1
I served a church as pastor in Indiana during my seminary days. One winter, we experienced the deepest snow that I had ever seen. The roads were closed for many days because of ice and snow. A friend of mine had his picture made in the snow. He said to me, "When summer comes with all the heat and humidity, I'm going to put this picture on my refrigerator door. We will miss this snow then." That's the way life is. We go through seasons, not only with the weather, but with the circumstances of our lives as well.
The author of Ecclesiastes wrote about the seasons in a person's life. We can foresee the seasons of the weather with a calendar. Not so with the seasons in our personal lives. It's not for us to know those times and seasons. After all, "whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow"(James 4:14). Yet, we know that God is in control of the seasons in each of our lives. In a new season, He does a new thing in our lives. We may long for the good ole days of a past season. Maybe we want the snow in summer and the heat in winter. But, we simply can't live in another season.
Ask God to open your eyes of understanding to what He is doing in this season of your life. It may be a season like when the land is idle. Nothing seems to be happening, yet God has a purpose. It may be a season like cultivating new things in your life, or maybe a really fruitful season of personal growth and accomplishment. Remember, only God can change the seasons in life, so enjoy every season of your life.
God, fulfill Your purpose in our lives for this season.
