"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 2:5
Dr. T. W. Hunt wrote a book entitled, "The Mind of Christ." It was based on a discipleship course that he wrote, instructing believers to live with the mind of Christ. How can we have the mind of Christ? First of all, we must receive Christ by faith. At that point, our minds are transformed through the work of the Holy Spirit within us (Romans 12:1-2). We begin to understand the things of God more clearly as taught in the Bible (1 Cor. 2:12-16). Then, we can say with the apostle Paul, "we have the mind of Christ" (1 Cor. 2:16).
Practically, according to Philippians 2:5-11, to have the mind of Christ is to have the mind of a servant. A domestic servant was the lowest class of people in New Testament days. Jesus humbled Himself to become a servant of others. That is illustrated when He took a towel and water basin, to wash the disciples feet. That was the task of a domestic servant in Bible days. When we think with the mind of Christ, we think as a servant to others.
We sat down to eat at a restaurant one night. A young man came to our table with a menu. He introduced himself and said, "I will be your servant tonight." Never before had a waiter said that to me. Jesus came not to be served, but to serve others. How does God want you to serve Him, by serving others? He puts those thoughts within all who have the mind of Christ. Knowing our place of service is to find the place of joy and purpose. The mind in you makes all the difference.
God, give us the mind of Christ.
