"You shall surround me with songs of deliverance."
Psalm 32:7
Years ago I attended a Christian conference for college students. At the time, I was a freshman in college. That night I don't recall the speaker's name nor the message. I do remember hearing the song, "Lord, I'm Coming Home." These are the words in the song that touched my heart: "I've wandered far away from God, now I'm coming home."
That night I recommitted my life to Jesus Christ. I knew in my heart that God had a call on my life to preach the gospel of Christ. That was a defining moment in my life. I was surrounded with a song that changed my direction in life.

The psalmist David knew the power of a song. As a song writer, he penned most of the songs that we know as the book of Psalms. It was the hymn book for the Hebrew people. David understood that God uses songs to change people's lives. He referred to them as songs of deliverance.
God still uses songs to change people's lives today. A psalmist wrote under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. The psalmist was anointed by the Spirit of God. As the songs were sung, the Spirit of God moved upon those who heard. Deliverance from an old lifestyle to a new life of faith was celebrated in the songs.
Is there a song God has used to touch your heart? When we join in singing the songs of deliverance, God's Spirit often works in our hearts. He ministers grace, love and mercy to us. He puts a song in our hearts. When we walk through a difficult time in life, we need a song from God. In the dark night of the soul, there has to be a song.
God, put a song in our hearts.
