"But the meek shall inherit the earth,
and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace."
Psalm 37:11
Recently, I read the testimony of an inmate in a Texas prison. He had a wonderful conversion experience. The one word that he used to describe his experience, receiving Jesus Christ as his Lord, was peace. He had never experienced such peace in his life. Later, he met with the chaplain and asked, "What do I need to do to keep that peace? I don't want to lose it." The chaplain explained that God wanted him to keep that peace. He emphasized the need for prayer and Bible study.
It is God's will for us to live in peace. Our verse for today mentions both meekness and peace. They are fruit of God working within us (Galatians 5:22-23). When we come to know God through Christ, the Holy Spirit is working in our hearts. As we continue to walk with God in His will, He confirms His presence within us through peace. He leads us through peace. We know that we are in God's will from reading the Bible, as well as the confirmation of peace. "Let the peace of God rule in your hearts" (Colossians 3:15).
Are you experiencing God's peace in your life? His peace is available to every believer. Knowing Christ by faith is knowing real peace. "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1).
Peace in our hearts is not determined by outward circumstances. We have learned that there is peace in the eye of a storm. We can walk through the storms of life with peace, because we know the Prince of peace. Abundant peace is God's will for you.
Father, grant us the abundant peace through Jesus Christ.
