Change Your Mind

"If God perhaps will grant them repentance,
so that they may know the truth."

2 Timothy 2:25

The elderly gentleman was trying to get inside the office building. He pushed on the door, but it wouldn't open, so he pushed harder and it still wouldn't open. He thought, surely they are open by this time. So, he pushed harder one more time. It did no good. He was ready to leave, when someone came out the door. He said quickly, "Hold that door please, so I can get in." The lady held the door open for him. Then, he realized his problem. He was pushing on the door and should have pulled it open. There was no locked door. It was open all the time. He was pushing, when he should have been pulling. He needed a change of mind.

The word repentance means to change the mind. If we want to enter the truth of God's Word and blessings, we must change our minds. God loves us and wants to bless us, but much of the time we are pushing when we should be pulling. It never occurs to us that our thinking could be wrong, so we keep on trying, stubbornly refusing to change our minds.

Without repentance, we cannot receive the blessings of God's love, mercy and grace. We try and try harder, but we don't receive what we read about in the Bible. It's not about trying harder. It's about changing our minds. It's called repentance.

There are roadblocks to changing our minds. One of those is lack of knowledge. We simply don't know the truth. The word of truth is found in your Bible. Another roadblock is pride. Who wants to admit that they may have been wrong? That's an humbling thought. Still another roadblock is discouragement. It just doesn't work for us, so we give up. The door to God's blessings is not locked. Change your mind.

God, grant us repentance that we may know the truth.
