"And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me,
when as yet there were none of them."
Psalm 139:16
The psalmist views his life like a book written as far as God is concerned. Don't misunderstand. This is not fatalism. It is God's knowledge of all things, the end before the beginning. God is not bound by time nor space. He is the eternal God. He knows us from beginning to end, yet He gives us choices in life. To God, our lives are like a book already written.
A book was written to be read. It is to be useful, not left on the shelf. Only in the hands of someone does a book become useful and has purpose. Our lives in the hands of God find real purpose. In the hand of God, we discover what real life is all about (John 10:28-29). He is able to read our lives as His child with enjoyment. He receives glory as He works in our lives. Without God, life becomes a meaningless book with no purpose in the plot.
God is the author of our lives. His children can only look back at the chapters read in time. The Lord has already read the last chapter. That's not an excuse to say, "Que sera sera," what will be will be. No. For the believer it's rejoicing through the darkest night of the soul and the deepest valley experience of life. God has given all believers a glimpse of the end in the Bible. He is working all things for our good, according to His purpose.
One day we shall be completely conformed to the likeness of Christ. As a Christian, your life is moving toward God's goodness in all things. Our last chapter is complete victory in Christ.
Father, bring glory to Yourself through our lives.
