"Therefore the children of men put their trust
under the shadow of Your wings."
Psalm 36:7
The eagle prepares its nest on the mountaintop upon the foundation of the rock. The eaglets in the nest are totally dependent on the eagle for food and protection. When the wind blows and the rain comes during a storm, the eaglets are secure under the eagle's wings. The psalmist uses this word picture to describe how God's children may trust in Him, especially during the storms of life.
God created the eagle to care for its young ones. There is a God-given instinct in the eagle to spread its wings of security over the helpless ones. The same one who created the eagle is our creator. If an eagle would care for its offspring in such a fashion, how much more will God care for His children?
No matter how severe the storms of life may become, under His wings is the sure place of security. Nothing can get to us without going through Him. I hope that you are not going through a hard time in your life now, but when you do, God may be trusted to watch over and keep you. The best thing that we can do is to simply trust in Him.
The eaglet is secure in the very place the eagle has prepared, within the nest and under the wings. God has prepared a place for all of His children. In that very place, He is there to affirm again and again that He is trustworthy. We are under His wings.
