"The LORD is my rock,
and my fortress and my deliverer.
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust.
Psalm 18:2
Her nine year old son was in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. He was involved in a life-threatening accident. Her family and friends were gathered with her in the waiting room. She said to her pastor, "I wish that I knew how to trust in God at a time like this. I feel so weak and helpless." The pastor quietly responded, "Anyone would feel helpless in your situation. We are all weak in times like these. The only way to trust in God is to take Him at His word." The pastor read a promise of God from the Bible. She later confessed, "That was a turning point for me. I knew that I could trust God's word." Her son slowly improved over the days following and fully recovered.
The psalmist testified how he would trust God in the bad circumstances which he encountered. He had a near death experience. Nevertheless, through it all he knew that he could trust the LORD his God. We can trust God always. His word changes not, because He changes not. What He has been to others in past generations, He shall always be. As with the psalmist, we can trust God to be our fortress and deliverer. He is our strength. Life situations can change suddenly and unexpectedly. This world can promise us no lasting security, but God is our fortress. Life is fragile. Our hopes and dreams can easily be broken, but God alone is our rock.
It's much easier for us to trust God in the good times. When the storms of life come our way, let us be prepared, sheltered in God's word as our fortress, trusting Him to be our rock. If you are going through a trying time or difficult days, ask God to lead you to a word of promise in the Bible. Take Him at His word. His word is our bond of trust. We can trust God always.
Lord, give me a heart to trust You always.
