"But let him ask in faith, with no doubting,
for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord."
James 1:6-7
Faith is the key which unlocks the door to the blessings of God. Doubt is a barrier to receiving anything from the Lord. Faith says, "I believe the promises of God. He will always honor His Word." Doubt says, "Maybe the promises of God are for me, but maybe they are not." The doubting person is questioning the faithfulness of God to keep His promises. Doubt robs us of the blessings in God's promises.
Doubt robs us of an effective prayer life. Our doubts point us to a more serious problem, that of being unstable and double-minded. "He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways" (James 1:8). The problem is always with us, and never with the promises of God.
A father promised his son to take him to a professional baseball game. The day came, but his dad called to tell him that he had to work late, and he couldn't take him to the game. The son said, "But dad, you promised." The father said, "I know son, but I didn't know that I would have to work late. It's beyond my control." Our heavenly Father makes promises to His children, and there is nothing beyond His control.
Don't let doubt rob you of God's wonderful blessings in Christ. Confess your doubts as sin. Ask God to strengthen your faith to receive all that He has for you. Pull down the stronghold of doubt in your mind, and bring all of your doubts captive to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Ask God to fulfill His promises in your life with no doubting. Don't let doubt rob you of God's promises.
Father, we confess our doubts as sin. Fill us with faith in Jesus name.
