"God be merciful unto us, and bless us;
and cause His face to shine upon us."
Psalm 67:1
In Bible days, it was not uncommon for women to wear a veil in public. The face was hidden from clear view. Even in modern times, brides have worn a veil at their wedding. When the veil was removed, it was to look eye to eye with the groom, as the vows were exchanged. It was an intimate moment for the couple as they spoke face to face and eye to eye. The psalmist uses an image of the face to talk of our intimacy with God as believers, "and cause His face to shine upon us."
Sin not confessed robs the believer from intimacy with God. Repentance and confession of sin brings God's mercy. Then, He blesses us to make His face shine upon us. Like a groom desires intimacy with his bride, God desires spiritual intimacy with every believer.
Intimacy with God is found in Christ. This illustration of intimacy is seen in Ephesians 5:25. "Husbands love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her." The Bible is the world's greatest love story. It's about intimacy with God.
Are you experiencing intimacy with God in your life? He desires intimacy with you more than you could ever desire. The way is prepared. The invitation is given. Come to God by faith in Christ. Confess your sins to Him. Receive His mercy and forgiveness. You can have intimacy with God.
