Walking with God

"Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you."

Jude 2

If you want to walk with God, it always begins at a point called mercy. The only thing that separates us from God is sin. We have disobeyed His commandments. We have turned everyone to his own way. We can't earn our way with God, because we have all sinned. We are hopeless to walk with God until mercy appears. Faith receives the mercy of God. That mercy is fully revealed in Christ at the cross. Unbelief says, "I try to live a good life. I'm better than most people. Why should I need mercy?" Faith says, "Because I have sinned against God, my only hope is in the mercy of God. I gladly receive His mercy."

Our walk with God brings peace. We have peace with God and peace within. "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). As we walk with God, we continue to experience peace. If we begin to stray from God, the lack of peace is our first warning sign. The peace of God is to have the final word in our hearts (Colossians 3:15).

The greatest evidence that we are walking with God is love. God is love (1 John 4:8). Love is the greatest gift of the Holy Spirit working within us (1 Cor. 13:13). Our love is tested through circumstances and other people. It's easy to love those who love us, but God teaches us to love our enemies. That's a tall task, impossible without the Spirit of Christ working in us.

Three words describe our walk with God: mercy, peace and love. As a believer, you can walk with God through the Spirit of Christ. Mercy invites us to walk with God. Peace assures us in our walk with God. Love is our delight in walking with God.

God, grant us mercy to walk with You.
